In a bid to tackle the growing numbers of individuals and families at risk or are experiencing homelessness in Mebourne’s North, 300 Blankets is excited to announce the launch of Soul Kitchen – Preston at The Bridge (218 High St, Preston VIC 3072) in August 2019.
Currently food services are operating Monday to Friday to support 60 – 80 people in Preston including a Laneway Lunch operated by The Bridge. Many of the people who access these services are living socially isolated lives and experience food insecurity.
In 2017, our charity was involved in the Victorian Government commissioned Rough Sleeping in Victoria – Situation Appraisal, which highlighted several issues surrounding rough sleeping including the detrimental effects it has on an individual’s physical and mental health. The study showed that people actually don’t become homeless in the CBD, but rather in the suburbs or outer Melbourne before migrating to the city due to lack of homeless services in their area.
We are looking forward to partner with The Bridge to provide a program outside of the CBD to support those who are struggling in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Soul Kitchen aims to tackle food insecurity and build community by replicating Soul Kitchen – Braybrook and operate a weekly, 100% volunteer program in the heart of Preston. With your help, we have a great chance to make a significant impact on the community. This project will provide volunteering opportunities to support the community who are in need of social support and food security.
